Production Log 3

This week in lesson we learnt about Film 4 who for our task we are meant to be making a film 4 and learnt about their ethos while will help guide us and to understand what sort of things our film needs to be about.

Our aim is to make an opening sequence that follows the conventions of BSR films but also conform to ideals of Film 4. What I learnt about Film 4 is that they have a particular style for films and stick to the same themes. The style they use is to normally have natural lighting and real sets which adds to the social realism which they are working for. They normally base their films in heavily accented areas and use similar actors so as to help establish the setting as most of the places they are set in are deprived areas and wouldn't have a landmark which can help identify the region for the audience. The thmes they commonly use in their films are politically controversial areas like race in This Is England, Sexuality like in My Beautiful Laundrette and poverty like in The Full Monty.

This week I learnt that sound in BSR films is very important as the right music chosen can help give the audience a better representation of what the film is about and the wrong could give the wrong impression. Diegetic and non-diegetic sound are just as important for instance BSR films normally choose actors with a strong accent or tell them to put one on so that dialogue between them and other characters as this helps the audience understand where the film is set. This will impact my film as I understand how important sound is for a BSR and will take time to pick the right music for my film and if it works to try and use accents in my film it would work better if I set in a my area as the people here already have the right accent.
